The weather is looking fantastic for Sunday, March 2, and anglers are going to be eager to hit the water! For anglers looking to take advantage of the open water opportunities on Lake Sharpe or Lake Francis Case, we have an update on boat ramp availability.
Lake Sharpe
The best access location is the Fort Pierre city boat ramp, as this has an open ramp and dock installed and available. There were some issue chunks that resulted in difficultly Saturday, March 1, but as of the evening this should be resolved as the ice chunks were broken up, on shore, or out of the area.
In town, the Causeway boat ramp is open for launching, but the dock is not in the water. The same is true for the Polo Fields boat ramp at Farm Island Recreation Area. Anglers are best launching at Fort Pierre for accessing the upper end of Lake Sharpe.
Lake Francis Case
The best access opportunities for Lake Francis Case are available at Fort Thompson near Big Bend Dam, but there is access in Chamberlain at the American Creek Campground. This is outside the American Creek Marina and is off the main channel a bit upstream of the marina.
The weather is looking fantastic, and the bite is excellent at Lake Francis Case in Chamberlain, get out and enjoy it!
