South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) will celebrate the annual Open House Weekend May 15-17, 2026. 

No park entrance license is required to visit any South Dakota state park or recreation area throughout the weekend. Additionally, no fishing license is required to enjoy any waterbody across South Dakota. 

Camping fees, daily limits, and other regulations still apply. Following this weekend, the 2025 State Park Entrance License will expire, and a new 2026 State Park Entrance License will be required. 

Open House Weekend is an excellent opportunity to introduce someone new to the sport of fishing or your favorite state park. It also celebrates the unofficial start of summer, and sets the stage for Memorial Day weekend!

Make plans to enjoy Open House Weekend, and start summer off right!
