The two major walleye fishing circuits in Nebraska, the Nebraska Walleye Trail and Nebraska Walleye Association, have announced their respective schedules for the 2025 season.
“Walleye fishing in Nebraska can sometimes fly under the radar,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “I can personally attest though; both the fisheries and the anglers are absolutely top notch.”
Nebraska Walleye Trail
The Nebraska Walleye Trail (NWT) will begin the 2025 season on Harlan County Reservoir, before heading to Johnson Lake, Lake McConaughy, Merritt Reservoir, and conclude with the State Championship back on Harlan County Reservoir.
“We fished the Nebraska Walleye Trail in 2023 and had a ton of fun,” continued Harrington. “All of those fisheries you can go to and expect to catch some really quality fish!”
The Harlan County and Johnson Lake events will be live weigh-ins, while the Lake McConaughy and Merritt Reservoir will feature the ETournament Fishing App for scoring. The State Championship will also count towards team of the year points, bringing the total number of scoring tournaments to five. The best four finishes per team will determine the Team of the Year, with a minimum of two events fished to qualify for the State Championship.
Complete dates and locations are as follows:
- May 3-4: Harlan Anglers Walleye Club Rod Marshal on Harlan County Reservoir
- May 18: Johnson Lake
- July 19-20: Lake McConaughy
- September 20-21: Merritt Reservoir
- October 11-12: State Championship at Harlan County Reservoir

The Nebraska Walleye Association (NWA) will begin the 2025 season on Calamus Reservoir, before heading to Harlan County Reservoir, Lake McConaughy, Lewis and Clark Lake, and conclude the season on Merritt Reservoir.

Nebraska features several excellent walleye fisheries, with many of these being showcased on the 2025 schedules for both circuits.
“Whether it’s participating in one of these tournaments or just out for a relaxing weekend I would highly recommend anglers check out both these fisheries and these events,” concluded Harrington. “The scenery is beautiful, there’s high quality fish, and anglers feel right at home in these communities!”
