The second week of the Tuesday Night Walleye Fishing League season in Pierre is in the books and once again high winds and dirty water played a role in where anglers were able to target on Lake Sharpe. The evening began with high winds, gusting to 40 mph out of the west, and coupled with the dirty water coming out of the Bad River forced all anglers to fish in town north of the Bad River.

The Lip Ripper Fishing boys continued their consistent streak, following up their 6 pound weights from Day One and Two from Sharpe Showdown with another 6.70 pound bag. The bite continues to consistent but producing predominantly 15-16 inch males.

The high winds forced the boys to employ the same tactic they utilized for Day One of Sharpe Showdown, trolling crankbaits adjacent to the main channel. Only 40 minutes into the evening, the boys had three fish in the boat and had put back two shorts. The fourth fish didn’t come for nearly another two hours, before they were able to put another five fish in the boat to complete an eight fish limit and weigh their best five for 6.70 pounds.

“I don’t even think we had all the rods out before we had the first fish on,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “We boxed three pretty quick and thought we would have plenty of time to look for overs, but then the water turned off at 7 and the bite did with it.”

As the sun set, the bite picked up again and the boys were able to put another five fish in the boat.

“We had one female that was 15 1/2 inches, but it was once again those 15-16 inch males that were biting,” continued Harrington. “It’s really fun fishing, no shortage of action, but we’re still looking for those right bites in tournament time.”

The boys’ five fish weighed in at 6.70 pounds and were good enough for a 6th place tie. Overall, the weights were very tight, with two ties and numerous teams separated within a pound.
