Each year, the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks’ Division of Parks and Recreation holds an annual theme in the parks across the state. This year’s theme is focused on fishing and is called Reel in Memories.
South Dakota State Parks sit on a wide variety of terrific fisheries, when factoring in all state parks, recreation areas, and lakeside use areas there are dozens of options for individuals to both access the best fisheries in the state and enjoy this year’s theme.
To participate, individuals simply need to go on a fishing adventure and take a photo in as many state parks, recreation areas, lakeside use areas, and nature areas as possible. Catching a fish isn’t even required-whether it’s wetting a line, taking a fishing class, cleaning fish, eating fish, or just rigging a rod up all fishing adventures qualify for the challenge.
The more parks you fish in, the more prizes you can win. Prize categories are:
- 1 Fishing Adventure-Bluegill Sticker;
- 5 Fishing Adventures-Yellow Perch Sticker;
- 10 Fishing Adventures-Largemouth Bass Sticker;
- 15 Fishing Adventures-Walleye Sticker; and,
- 20 Fishing Adventures-Muskie Sticker AND entry to win the Ultimate South Dakota State Parks Fishing Grand Prize.
The grand prize includes a two-night state at a South Dakota State Park modern lodge, camping gear, and fishing gear.
Individuals can participate all year long and have until December 31, 2024, to submit their fishing adventures. Submissions can be accumulated year-round and can be easily submitted online.
