The two major walleye tournament circuits in Nebraska, Nebraska Walleye Association and Nebraska Walleye Trail, have both announced their schedules for the 2024 season.

Nebraska Walleye Trail

The 2024 schedule for the Nebraska Walleye Trail will feature four regular season events and a State Championship. Three of the regular season events have been announced, and an additional event will be announced once a final date and location has been determined.

The current schedule is:

  • April 21: Sherman Reservoir Ice Out Tournament (Sherman Reservoir, Loop City)
  • May 4-5: Harlan County Rod Marshal Memorial (Harlan Reservoir, Republican City)
  • June 1-2: Big Mac Shut Up and Fish (Lake McConaughy, Ogallala)
  • July 1-September 1: Event To Be Determined
  • October 5-6: Nebraska Walleye Trail State Championship (Merritt Reservoir, Valentine)

“Last year was the first time on Sherman for both Mason and me,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “This was a really fun body of water to explore and fish, with no shortage of big walleyes to be caught.”

The team of Harrington and Propst competed in the Sherman Ice Out Tournament, Big Mac Shut Up and Fish, Merritt Open, and State Championship in 2023. Chris Seylar subbed for Harrington at the McConaughy event.

“Big Mac is a special waterbody to myself and my family,” said Mason Propst of Propst Professional Anglers. “I’m most excited for Merritt in October though, that is such a fun waterbody to fish and the perfect time of year to put up some mega weights.”

Nebraska Walleye Association

The Nebraska Walleye Association (NWA) will feature four regular season events and a two-day championship. The 2023 NWA Anglers survey received numerous suggestions for tournament locations, and the schedule reflects these desires.

The current schedule is:

  • May 19: Sherman Reservoir (Loop City)
  • June 22-23: Harlan Reservoir (Republican City)
  • July 13-14: Merritt Reservoir (Valentine)
  • August 25: Lewis and Clark Lake (Crofton, NE/Yankton, SD)
  • September 28-29: Lake McConaughy (Ogallala)

“When you look at the two schedules, it’s safe to say that the best fisheries in Nebraska are represented,” said Harrington. “Nebraska features some tremendous trophy walleye waters, and the combination of Big Mac, Merritt, Harlan, and Sherman not only represents the best of these waters but the variety of locations across the state.”

“I love the diversity in times of these locations between the two schedules,” said Propst. “These dates and locations really show off that you can find great fishing in Nebraska all season long.”
