The dog days of summer aren’t completely shutting off the fish. In fact, there can still be some really good fishing to be had. Let’s get to it!

Lake Oahe

The fishing on Oahe has been up and down with the weather. We had some massive storms rip through central South Dakota Friday night and last night. These storms have made fishing tough, but there are days fishing can be very good too!

The fish continue to be on their way deep, but on those days of steady weather you can still get some fish bottom bouncing. Working those Tillys out in deeper water can produce some fish as well. With the storms we’ve had the main factor you need to keep in mind is what the situation has been over the past 24-48 hours.

When you’re on the fish though, the fishing is very, very good. Check out what the Propst Professional Anglers have been able to do!

Fort Pierre National Grasslands

The Grassland dams have still been producing some good fishing as well. While the weeds and grasses have significantly grown, you can still find spots to effectively fish many of the dams.

The grasses have actually been a big factor for success. Dropping slipbobbers and crawlers along the weed edges has been producing some good bluegill fishing. There are also perch and small bullhead along these edges, depending on what dam you are fishing.

The smaller largemouth bass have also been coming on these slipbobbers in the same locations, but the nicer ones are coming on buzz baits. I’ve found throwing those buzz baits on the open water right on the side of these weeds has been producing the nicer bass. It’s not fast and furious, but you can catch fish.

Iowa Great Lakes

Chris Seylar once again has our Iowa Great Lakes report. The walleyes have slowed down, but if you work for them they are still there and willing to bite.

The largemouth bass bite is also good down on the IGL’s. The largemouth bite is particularly good on West Okoboji.

The bluegills and yellow bass are also producing some good fishing on West and East Okoboji. East seems to be producing more numbers, but West is producing the better quality fish.

The North end of East Okoboji also has a good northern pike bite going on, which is certainly worth checking out!
