This is the time of year that everyone makes their New Years resolutions. It might be easy to say “fish more” and call it good. We all want to fish more plus it sounds way easier than taking up Mark Wahlberg’s workout routine. However, there are many ways to improve as both an angler and get more out of fishing. This is what the New Years resolution should focus on.

To improve as an angler we need to escape our normal routines. It is great to go to our favorite spot and do our favorite presentation and catch fish, but doing the same thing over and over isn’t going to make you a better angler. I often say “all time spent on the water makes you a better angler”. This is true, but we learn more on the days we struggle than the days we whack them. Trying a new location or trying a new presentation is going to be far more educational than sticking with the standard routine, even if you don’t catch fish. The challenge of learning a new body of water also is often a great time and highly rewarding.

The next challenge is take someone new fishing. Introducing a new angler to the sport is both a great time and highly rewarding. Often teaching and answering questions will make us think about things we had taken for granted and evaluate how we go about our trip to trip activities. Taking someone new also makes the tough days better, as what might be considered “slow” for you could be their best day ever.

I highly encourage everyone to make 2019 the year they improve as an angler. Whether that be taking someone new or trying something different. If you are looking for a new presentation or tactic to try feel free to check out our “Fishing Information”. This section is broken down by season and features our takes on what we do to catch fish. Hopefully it helps you catch some more fish!

What will I be doing to improve for 2019? I am planning for 2019 to be my biggest year yet. I am going to begin booking guide trips for the open water season on the Missouri River reservoirs and cannot wait to make new friends and share my passion! If you’re looking to get in on the fun feel free to give me a call or text at 402-689-9947. On top of that I am going to challenge myself to try new tactics and work new areas. I’m very excited to expand out of my comfort zone and try some new products and presentations!

Finally I hope to do a better job showcasing all the aspects of angling. I’m hoping to get more “behind the scenes” pictures and videos and improve as a content provider. Logan Pickner with Sik Pik Productions is an amazing talent and I have had the honor to work with already. His products are phenomenal and I hope to have him out on the ice and on the boat with us more in the future!

If there is anything I can do to improve or feedback you have for me feel free to reach out! I want to always be improving and proudly representing the sport I love! I am also hoping to add more hunting information as well and hopefully expand upon what we are already offering.

I hope that 2019 is your best year yet! If you ever have any questions or want to talk fishing please feel free to reach out to myself, Mason, Chris or the other members of the Ice Fishing South Dakota team as well. I am very excited for what we have in store for 2019 and I sincerely hope you enjoy it!

Good fishing,

Nick
