The Sharpe Showdown is set to take place April 25-26, 2026. This event is hosted by the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce and run by The Fishing Crew.

“Sharpe Showdown is all about the best of what Pierre has to offer,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “Lake Sharpe is my favorite fishery, and all the community businesses come together to show what visitors can expect when they come to fish.”

This will be the fourth year of the event, which launches out of Downs Marina in Pierre.

“We’re again partnering with the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce to showcase the Lake Sharpe fishery,” said Curt Underhill, Tournament Director for The Fishing Crew. “This has been a popular event in the community, and we’re excited for it to continue again this season.”

Anglers can fish all of Lake Sharpe, which extends from Oahe Dam north of Pierre to Big Bend Dam in Fort Thompson.

“There are several areas that get a lot of focus in the Pierre area, but there’s good fishing to be found throughout the reservoir,” continued Harrington. “There will be anglers that stay close and fish the bridges in town or the stilling basin, and there will be anglers that run down to West Bend.”

Complete information, rules, and registration can be found on The Fishing Crew’s website

“The sponsors really get behind this event and make for a lot of fun,” concluded Harrington. “This really is the best of the Pierre community.”

When it comes to fishing in the Pierre area, the best lodging can be found at Oahe Downstream Recreation Area. These four cabins provide immediate access to Lake Sharpe, all the comforts of home, and convenient boat parking right on site. Whether it’s for Sharpe Showdown or just a fishing trip to Pierre, make Oahe Downstream Recreation Area your top option.
