The South Dakota Governor’s Cup is set to take place July 18-19, 2026. This event launches out of Spring Creek Recreation Area, fishing Lake Oahe from the Oahe Dam to Bushes Landing Lakeside Use Area.

“This is easily the most historic tournament that takes place in South Dakota, and a victory will etch your name in the history books,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “The excitement around this tournament is about as good as it gets.”

The South Dakota Governor’s Cup is hosted by The Fishing Crew.

“The Governor’s Cup is the crown jewel event for walleye fishing in South Dakota, and we’re proud to keep this tradition running strong,” said Curt Underhill, Tournament Director for The Fishing Crew. “We’ll also have the third year of the Lieutenant Governor’s Cup as well, which has been received with extremely positive reviews by the participating kids and their families.”

The Lieutenant Governor’s Cup is open for youth shorefishing along the Spring Creek Marina and surrounding area. This event began in conjunction with the 50th Governor’s Cup, and has continued to grow in popularity.

“Whether you’re fishing in the event, watching weigh-ins, or just out on the peninsula you can sense the excitement regarding this event,” continued Harrington. “It really encapsulates what fishing in South Dakota is all about.”

The 2025 tournament was record setting, with Beau Schilling and Ben Beadle bringing over 61 pounds for a two-day tournament weight.

Day One saw them bring 31.05 pounds, which was anchored by an 11.36 pound walleye. They then brought a second 11 pound walleye on Day Two, which produced yet another 30 pound bag.
