The deadline to apply for the 2025 South Dakota Nonresident Black Hills Spring Turkey season is approaching. The due date to apply is Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 8 a.m. CT.
New for 2025, 2,225 South Dakota Nonresident Black Hills Spring Turkey licenses will be issued by a lottery drawing. Nonresidents must obtain their license through this drawing and are no longer able to purchase unlimited licenses.

In addition to Nonresident Black Hills Spring Turkey, applications for Custer Spring Turkey and Prairie Spring Turkey are also due on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 8 a.m. CT. Archery Spring Turkey Access Permit applications are due Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 8 a.m. CT.
South Dakota residents are still eligible to purchase a Black Hills Spring Turkey license over the counter.
The 2025 South Dakota Turkey Seasons dates are as follow:
- April 12 – May 31, 2025 Single-season prairie units;
- April 26 – May 31, 2025 Black Hills and Black Hills archery;
- April 12 – 30, 2025 Split-season early prairie units (08A and 44A) and Unit 58B;
- May 1 – 31, 2025 Split-season late prairie units (08B and 44B); and,
- April 12 –30, 2025 Access Permit Areas.
* Depending on the geographic area being hunted, the mentored and archery spring seasons align with the Prairie and Black Hills seasons, respectively.
Turkey hunters are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to ensure they are ready for the 2025 season!
