The 2025 South Dakota Black Hills Mountain Lion season begins on December 26, 2024, and runs through April 30, 2025. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is encouraging all mountain lion hunters to make plans to purchase their 2025 mountain lion licenses early so they are ready for the season.
This is because with the timing of Christmas, GFP offices will be closed December 23-25. This is the Monday-Wednesday prior to the season, which means hunters will not be able to stop into a GFP office prior to the season beginning on Thursday. There will also be a delay in mailing mountain lion licenses as well.
Mountain lion hunters who purchase their license through Go Outdoors South Dakota should conservatively plan 10 business days from the time they purchase their license to the time it arrives in the mail because of the Christmas season. This means to ensure delivery prior to the season, licenses should be purchased by Friday, December 6.
Hunters can also stop into a GFP Wildlife Division office prior to December 20, which will be the last business day prior to the beginning of the 2025 Black Hills Mountain Lion season.
