Sitting on the shores of expansive Lake Oahe, Mobridge sits as the gateway to the West. Whether you’re looking for world-class walleye fishing, great numbers of smallmouth bass, excellent pheasant hunting, or simply to get away from the hustle and bustle Mobridge has something for you.

A small town with big outdoor opportunity, Mobridge offers excellent fishing, hunting, and camping within minutes from town. The greatest draw for many is indeed the walleye fishing. Lake Oahe, particularly in the Mobridge area, can produce both terrific numbers of fish as well as gigantic fish as well.

Two large tributaries, the Grand River and the Moreau River, produce excellent recruitment of walleyes and keep numbers of fish in the area throughout the entire year. The amount of forage in the system, spawning areas, and deep water keep large walleyes present especially in the spring and fall.

In addition to walleye, Lake Oahe can produce fantastic smallmouth bass fishing. A structure angler’s dream, the Mobridge area in particular offers excellent smallmouth spots with rocky grades, current and past bridge pilings, and points all can hold smallmouth making locating fish easy.

The fantastic fishing brings anglers back year after year as they fill both limits of walleyes and many bring home some of the largest fish they have ever caught!

Located directly on the shore of Lake Oahe, Mobridge offers convenient access onto the water. Walleye reign supreme on the reservoir, but abundant smallmouth bass, trophy northern pike, salmon, crappie, and yellow perch all attract anglers as well. Recommended Lodging

A handful of state parks can be found along the upper end of Lake Oahe between Gettysburg and Mobridge. These parks offer both campsites and camping cabins. Check out West Whitlock Recreation Area, Swan Creek Recreation Area, and Indian Creek Recreation Area for more information.

Historically one of the top walleye fishing destinations in the country, Lake Oahe can produce spectacular fishing, but can also be very daunting for anglers as well. The reservoir features hundreds of creeks and tributaries, thousands of points, submerged islands, large flats, and an abundance of deep-water structure that can leave anglers overwhelmed looking at the map. Fortunately, there is likely no easier time to fish Lake Oahe than in the early summer months.
