It has been a very busy week in the South Dakota outdoors. The fishing on Lake Sharpe continues to be fantastic, the reports from the field indicate pheasant season continues to get better and better, and there were several major announcements shared throughout the past week that we’ll highlight as well. Fall is here in South Dakota, and we are officially to the biggest week of the season-the South Dakota pheasant opener! There is no bigger week in the South Dakota outdoors, and we’ve got everything you need to know to prepare for a huge week across the state!
The fall season continues to progress, and that means additional seasons continue to open. Notably for October, in South Dakota that means paddlefish snagging season below Gavins Point Dam! That was the focus of this week, and we have some other important information to share as well!

When I thought of northeast South Dakota, I often first thought of the walleye and perch fishing of Bitter or Waubay. After my trip to Roy Lake, I realized just how mistaken I was! There are so many amazing fisheries in this area, and the top-notch facility at Roy Lake State Park makes this a must-visit destination for any angler!
The fall season is here on the Missouri River, and fishing is picking up on Lake Sharpe near Pierre! Fish are transitioning up the reservoir, scattering across the major flats east of Pierre, and really starting to get more aggressive as summer begins to wind down.
