The Pierre area features not one, but two fantastic walleye fisheries in Lake Sharpe and Lake Oahe. Anglers from across the region come to enjoy these fisheries at all times of the year, and the June timeframe is one of the best times to come to the area. It’s at this time both fisheries are producing excellent bites.

This bite was on full display when Fishing the Midwest came to visit Pierre. After a day on Lake Oahe and a day on Lake Sharpe, there was no shortage of walleyes that entered the boat.

“I was fortunate to have the opportunity to host the Lake Sharpe portion of the show,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “It was an honor to be able to showcase my favorite fishery on national television.”

The Lake Sharpe portion was filmed in Hipple Lake out of Farm Island Recreation Area

“Hipple Lake is one of my favorite spots on Lake Sharpe, which made this even better,” continued Harrington. “We caught some really nice fish, and plenty of short fish too.”

There were major storms that took place the night before, which put the fish in a bit of a funk. A slow death hook with a plain crawler at about 1.3 mph was the best option for trigger bites.

“I had been working hard the week before and had a pretty good bite going on the flats, but the storms wrecked that,” detailed Harrington. “Fortunately, Hipple Lake is always a great go-to anytime you have adverse weather conditions.”

Fishing the Midwest is available on FanDuel Sports North, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network, My Outdoor TV, Outdoor Action TV, and YouTube.

“The Pierre area is very special to me, and Lake Sharpe truly is my favorite walleye fishery,” concluded Harrington. “I hope the viewers of this show see exactly why!”
