It’s been a jam-packed last couple weeks and we are very behind on our League Reports! Apologies for that and hoping to get caught up here!
The hot streak continued, literally with the hot weather, through Week Five, but cold weather, rain, and muddy water complicated things for Week Six. We discuss it all, these weeks’ league report!
Week Five
Heading into Week Five with the points lead, and plenty of momentum, the strong bite continued. The boys were able to land on five quality fish quickly, putting approximately 7 pounds in the boat with the first five fish that went into the box. Per state law, they were then allowed three more to keep continuing to work on the bag.
“We were in a really fortunate situation that we had five nice fish, which the smallest were about 1.3 pounds,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “We still had about two hours of fishing time to work on getting a couple just a bit larger, and we were able to put a couple that were 1.5 pounds in over that time.”
Sure enough, this put the boys directly at 7.4 pounds and good enough for 3rd place. These valuable points extended the lead, which provided some cushion for the upcoming week!

Week Six
Week Six presented some different challenges. A week of heavy rain, wind, and cold temperatures played a significant impact on the river and the bite overall. Extreme mud came from the Bad River, as well as other tributaries, resulting in completely muddy conditions on the main fishing areas the boys had been targeting.
“The changing conditions was one challenge, and I was attending to an important matter in Nebraska and didn’t get back until late Monday so there was no pre-fishing for me,” said Harrington. “Fortunately, we’ve got Malachi’s Confirmation complete!”

Tuesday night saw continued rain and wind, but the mud was the key factor, with the best spots turning completely into chocolate milk.
“Our best spot you could see the fish on the graph, but they just weren’t biting,” continued Harrington. “I found an area of clearer water, but there just weren’t many fish there.”
After covering as much water as possible, both productive areas and clean areas, it wasn’t looking good with no bites to their credit at 8:52 p.m.
“I told Chris I had one other spot to check,” elaborated Harrington. “We pulled in and nearly instantly had three fish in the boat. Ultimately we were able to get three keepers and threw back three shorts.”
The quick bite was good enough for 3.2 pounds, and a 13th place finish.
“It was tough to see the Top Five streak end after five weeks, but in a tough situation we were able to salvage some valuable points,” concluded Harrington. “The season long points championship remains still very much in reach, and that’s my goal.”
