The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) has two major boat ramp replacements taking place this fall, the first being the main ramp at the Lake Thompson State Recreation Area and the second being the North Point Recreation Area main ramp.

Beginning October 21, the main ramp at the North Point Recreation Area on Lake Francis Case near Pickstown will be closed for approximately 6-8 weeks for a complete ramp replacement. The ramp will be closed while this replacement is taking place.

Anglers and boaters will still find ample access to Lake Francis Case in this area, as the Fort Randall Marina, Prairie Dog Bay, and St. Francis Bay will all remain in service as water levels allow. There are additional boat ramps along the river on the lower end of the reservoir as well. Lake Francis Case experiences an annual draw-down each fall, and ramp conditions are dictated by these water levels.

Temporary boat ramp closures allow for improved access opportunities in the future, and Lake Francis Case will be finding itself in the spotlight next season as the National Team Championship heads to Pickstown June 2025.

Complete info regarding public water access in South Dakota can be found on the Public Water Access Map. This map displays boat ramps, access points, and also statuses of these accesses as well.
