The fall season is here, and there is no better time to visit South Dakota State Parks. Fall is the perfect time for hunters, anglers, or campers looking to enjoy a quiet campground to visit the parks.

“Whether you’re looking to set up the perfect base camp for your hunting trip, find the perfect spot for the fall bite, or just enjoy the quiet campgrounds many individuals find fall to be one of the best times of the year to camp,” said Jeff VanMeeteren, South Dakota State Parks Director, in a press release.

South Dakota state parks and recreation areas remain open throughout the entire year, though some facilities and features may close for the winter.

“Usually our comfort stations stay open until late October,” said Al Nedved, South Dakota State Parks Deputy Director, in a press release. “We get a lot of hunters staying in the parks, and we like to keep those open as long as possible.”

In addition to traditional campgrounds, many South Dakota state parks and recreation areas also feature more modernized lodging options, including cabins and suites.

“The modern lodging options many parks feature are my personal favorite,” said Nick Harrington, Owner of Lip Ripper Fishing. “I’m not a camper, but I can tow the boat, have the comforts of home, and plenty of space to park the boat when I’m off the water.”

Whether looking to enjoy the fall foliage on a hike, hit the water for the fall bite, or have the perfect place to stay for your hunting trip, individuals will find what they’re looking for in a South Dakota State Park.

“Parks really are open all year long for folks to come out and have fun in the outdoors. We put our parks on par with any in the country and the fun doesn’t stop just because summer is almost done,” concluded Nedved. “The opportunities and solitude of a state park in the fall and winter are incredible and we want people to come out and see for themselves.”
