The 2023 Nebraska Walleye Trail season will conclude August 19-20 on Merritt Reservoir near Valentine, Nebraska. The final two events of the season will be the Merritt Open on August 19 and the State Championship on August 20. These two events will crown both the Team of the Year and the State Champion.
The Merritt Open on August 19 is open to all anglers, while the Nebraska Walleye Trail State Championship will take place on August 20. Anglers must have fished two events to be eligible for the State Championship. Anglers who have fished one event may fish the Merritt Open to qualify for the State Championship on Sunday.
The Merritt Open is $300 to enter, plus a $30 late-fee for applications received after August 1. The State Championship is $400 to enter, plus a $30 late-fee for applications received after August 1. Application forms can be found on the Nebraska Walleye Trail Facebook page.
Mason Propst and Nick Harrington will look to end their tournament season strong and carry momentum into the 2024 season.
“We’re very excited to wrap up the tournament season on such a fun fishery,” stated Harrington. “Our goal is going to be have fun and swing for the fences.”
The Pierre, South Dakota anglers will be bringing confidence into the tournament, as the 2022 event was won by Mason’s father, Bob Propst Jr.
“We’re very confident the fishery plays to our strengths, and we know we have the ability to bring home a state championship,” continued Harrington. “We’re fortunate to have these opportunities and look forward to ending the season on a high note.”
