This week’s fishing report provides a special look into Lake Francis Case along the Chamberlain area. Next week, Nick Harrington and Mason Propst will be competing in the 21st Annual Cedar Shore Walleye Tournament hosted by The Fishing Crew. Find the complete report from three days of pre-fishing in preparation as we take a special look at this area of the river.

Day One: 4/1/2022

The first day of pre-fishing was Friday, April 1. Conditions were tough, with freezing temperatures in the morning with rain in the afternoon hours. Despite the difficult conditions, overall fishing was very good!

Starting the day trolling crankbaits made it easier to find active fish and focus in on those productive areas. Once an area was identified, thoroughly covering the area with jigs proved to a be successful technique.

Day Two: 4/2/2022

The second day of pre-fish was much different conditions, with much warmer temperatures, sun and continued calm conditions. While there were many more boats out on the water taking advantage of these conditions, there were plenty of fish to be caught too!

Day two was about focusing in on those productive areas and required covering a lot of different water to do so. Once again, fish were abundant across the reservoir and every spot seemed to produce fish. The important part was highlighting those fish that were the best quality and most active.

Day Three/Full Report: 4/3/2022

Sunday morning about 8:30 a.m., the winds hit hard. Lake Francis Case went from flat calm, to very rough in a matter of minutes. A wind advisory was issued for the area as winds were pushing 25-35 mph, while gusting more than 45 mph.

The weather pattern for the week is going to be critical, as the wind and rain can impact both the water clarity and the temperatures. This change in conditions will likely have a major impact on the bite and staying versatile in the changing conditions is going to be critical for finding success on tournament day!

Overall, water temperatures were in the upper 30s to low 40s while water clarity was changing rapidly based on the location within the reservoir.
