The first tournament of the season for Mason Propst and Nick Harrington is in the books! Fishing out of Pierre, Lake Sharpe played host for this local tournament and provided an insight into fishing on the Missouri River near Pierre.
Anglers fanned out across 20 miles of the upper end of Lake Sharpe and found fishing biting across the entire stretch. In the spring, fish are constantly on the move across the upper third of the reservoir and this was a great example that anglers don’t necessarily have to fish the community spots to find fish.
In addition to location, a variety of techniques also produced fish. Pitching jigs, vertical jigging and trolling crankbaits all produced fish. In the colder conditions in the morning, fish tend to be more lethargic. As the sun becomes higher and the air becomes warmer, the bite continues to get better and better.
All eyes will now be on Lake Francis Case and the Chamberlain area, as anglers prepare for the 21st Annual Cedar Shore Walleye Tournament. The bite has been strong and finding quality slot fish and overs is going to be key. Stay tuned for the latest fishing report and tournament results!
